Delph has proved to be a key player for Leeds this season.

LEEDS UNITED’S hotshot midfielder Fabian Delph has scooped the FourFourTwo Young Player of the Year prize in this seasons Football League awards.

The ceremony took place at the Grosvenor House on Park Lane in London earlier this week with more then 800 football representatives present.

The 19-year-old midfielder has cemented a regular first team place this season and was ranked the highest under 21 representative in 21st position.

Speaking after receiving the award, Delph said: “I’m absolutely delighted to get this award in my first full season of regular first team football.

“The players around me have been a big help and people like our last manager Gary McAllister, who spent a lot of time in meetings with me telling me how I can improve my game, have been a big driving force.

“After starting the season well we had a bit of a dip, but we’ve come back strongly and hopefully I can now help us get promoted to the Championship.”

More to come from the FourFourTwo Football League awards later.
