Sheffield show some steel

ALL of Yorkshire’s Championship clubs were in action on Tuesday night with both halves of Sheffield adding another three points to their tallys.

Leon Clarke was on target for the Owls.

A second half Leon Clarke strike was good enough to seal a 1-0 win for Wednesday over QPR whilst loanee Brian Howard struck in the first half for United in their 1-0 away victory over Nottingham Forest.

Doncaster’s good run of form came to a halt at the hands of Preston. Jon Parkin found the net in the second half to seal a 1-0 win for the Lancashire club.

Only a late second half comeback from Swansea prevented Barnsley from recording a win. The Tykes went 2-0 up thanks to goals from Jon Macken and Jemal Campbell-Ryce but a late brace from Jason Scotland denied Barnsley all three points.

The only other Yorkshire side in action was York City who held Leeds United’s FA Cup conquerers Histon to a 1-1 draw.

The results see Sheffield United jump to the top of the Yorkshire Super League with Doncaster Rovers still rooted to the foot of the table.
