Talent scout – Nathan Porritt

Name – Nathan Porritt

Age – 18

Position – Winger

Current Club – Middlesbrough

Previous Clubs – None

The hype surrounding this young Middlesbrough winger could easily have been blown out of all proportion. There is no doubt this lad has potential but after Porritt was the victim of a reported tapping up offer in 2006 from Chelsea, he seems to have fallen off the radar.

Porritt put pen to paper in October to sign his first professional contract and end recent speculation that he was to be poached by a big four club.

A confident winger who is not afraid to have a go at opposing defenders Porritt has already been capped by England at U17 level and will be looking to break into the Middlesbrough squad this season.

In 2006 a BBC panaroma programme alleged that Porritt was ‘tapped up’ by Premier League sides Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle. This lead to a huge amount of hype for the young winger and it could be argued that he suffered in the limelight.

However recent reports coming out of the Middlesbrough camp suggest that Porritt is progressing and could feature at some point this season having been named amongst the substitutes on numerous occasions.

  1. I remember reading about this guy somewhere before. Maybe the hype around him has hindered his development. I hope to see him in action at some point this season. Good review, keep up the good work.
